Did you say, the concept for the SVG-IG site would be that public could not even see it / read it, without getting an account? There are plusses/minusses either way of course, but I lean toward the value of open access.
Rob only stated that the current site is not public (since it is a work-in-progress). Once ths site is 'released' it would be available to the public to see the contents of course.

I think everything should be readable, with spam restrictions on writing, and there should be an easy way to create an account.
