Open Source Activity Map - Made with OpenLayers and SVG

April 21, 2009 - 4:07pm by andreasneumann

Red Hat publishes a study on worldwide open source activity and growth. Parts of the study is an interactive map indicating the level of involvement of an individual country with the open source movement. The map is implemented with OpenLayers and SVG. You may click on a country to display ranking information, split up into government, industry and community involvement.

It seems like France is the number 1 open source nation. My own country, Switzerland, is not really an open source leader ... it seems like Switzerlands industry is more interested in open source than the Swiss government. They are not yet too interested in the flexibility, innovation and cost savings they would get through open source. Or the officers are too lazy and cost is still not an issue ... after all it is quite comfortable to shirk responsibility.
