SVG Tools

April 6, 2009 - 7:55pm

There are a number of tools available for SVG, ranging from graphical authoring tools, to SVG toolkits, to development environments, to script libraries, to conversion utilities. Some of these are free and open-source, some are commercial. Many are aimed at static content creation, and others at dynamic interactive graphics.

For designers, most major vector-based graphics software (including Inkscape, Adobe Illustrator, Sketsa SVG Editor, and CorelDraw) can save or export SVG, and import it as well.

For developers, tools commonly used for development of Web-based languages such as HTML, CSS, and Javascript can also be used with SVG, as can XML tools.

Another class of tools, SVG viewers, allows interactive viewing of SVG files. These include modern desktop browsers such as Opera, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Google Chrome, and mobile viewers such as QuickOffice BitFlash, Ikivo, and the iPhone version of Safari, or Apache Batik for standalone viewer
