Adobe Tools

April 6, 2009 - 8:31pm

Adobe Systems was an early supporter of SVG, and fostered the early community with its browser plugin, the Adobe SVG Viewer (ASV). Adobe discontinued customer support for Adobe SVG Viewer on January 1, 2009 (see Adobe SVG Viewer End of Life FAQ), after merging with Macromedia and adopting the Flash product line. ASV is still available for download to enable SVG viewing in Internet Explorer, but is no longer maintained.

Adobe still supports SVG in several of its products, including authoring tools such as Illustrator, InDesign, GoLive, Version Cue, and FrameMaker, and server products such as Graphics Server, and FrameMaker Server. SVG is also part of the experimental Adobe PDFXML project (also known as Adobe Mars).

Adobe Illustrator is one of the most popular commercial vector-art tools. It can import and export SVG.
